Role Title: Senior Fire Systems Designer
Location: Sydney (3 days in office, 2 days WFH)
Overview:
We’re a specialist fire systems design consultancy looking for a senior designer who can operate independently and take ownership of projects from concept through to delivery. This role is suited to someone from a contractor or contractor-aligned background who understands practical installation and real-world constraints.
At present, I am the senior designer in the business working alongside a cadet, so this role is intended to add experienced capability and help carry project load independently.
Key Responsibilities:
- End-to-end design of fire protection systems
- Hydraulic calculations and system sizing
- 2D AutoCAD drafting and 3D Revit modelling
- Preparation of material lists / take-offs
- Coordination with contractors and other trades
- Producing buildable, practical designs (not just compliance-based)
Systems Exposure:
- Wet fire sprinkler systems
- Pre-action and deluge systems
- Gas suppression systems
- Water mist systems
- Dry fire systems
Project Types:
- Residential, commercial, and retail
- Hospitals and healthcare
- Storage / industrial facilities
- Defence projects
- Large infrastructure works
We work with a range of clients from smaller contractors through to Tier 1.
Ideal Candidate:
- Strong Australian wet fire design experience
- Able to work independently with minimal supervision
- Contractor background highly preferred
- Proficient in AutoCAD and Revit
- Experience with hydraulic calculation software (e.g. Hyena or similar)
Accreditations (Preferred):
- NSW FPAS (Design)
- NSW Design Practitioner (DEP)
- QBCC or VBA equivalent
Salary Range:
From $140,000 + super (depending on experience)

Requirements
Essential:
- Minimum 3-5 years' experience in fire sprinkler systems design within the Australian market
- Strong working knowledge of AS 2118.1 (automatic fire sprinkler systems) and associated Australian Standards
- Proficient in hydraulic calculations and system sizing, including use of calculation software (Hyena or equivalent)
- Competent in 2D production drafting in AutoCAD
- Experience producing material lists and take-offs from design documentation
- Ability to manage projects independently from concept through to construction documentation
- Background working with or for fire protection contractors, with a practical understanding of installation constraints
- Familiarity with BCA/NCC fire safety provisions as they relate to fire sprinkler and suppression system design
- 3D modelling capability in Revit
- Experience coordinating with hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical trades during design development
Highly Desirable:
- NSW FPAS accreditation (Design) or eligibility to obtain
- NSW Design Practitioner (DEP) registration or eligibility to obtain
- Interstate equivalent accreditations (QBCC, VBA)
- Experience with pre-action, deluge, gas suppression, water mist, or dry fire systems
- Exposure to defence or healthcare project environments
