Position – Fire Protection Equipment Technician – Full Time

As our business continues to grow, we are seeking an experienced and motivated Fire Protection Equipment Technician to join our team.
Position Overview
We are currently seeking a skilled and dependable Fire Protection Equipment Technician to support our fire division in the inspection, testing, servicing, installation, rectification and reporting of fire protection equipment and systems across our client base.
The role will involve both field-based and office-based responsibilities, including site attendance, assessment of fire safety assets, identification of non-compliances, preparation of reports and service records, and assisting with the planning and delivery of rectification works. The successful candidate will be expected to apply sound technical knowledge, exercise strong attention to detail, and communicate clearly with both clients and internal teams.
The Position
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Carrying out inspections, testing, servicing and maintenance of fire protection equipment in accordance with relevant Australian Standards and statutory requirements.
- Assisting with the installation, repair and replacement of fire protection equipment and associated components across a variety of buildings and facilities.
- Identifying defects, wear, damage or non-compliant fire safety items and accurately recording findings.
- Assessing existing fire protection measures and recommending practical rectification or upgrade solutions where required.
- Preparing service records, inspection reports, defect lists and supporting documentation for clients and internal use.
- Assisting with the coordination and delivery of rectification works arising from inspections, fire orders, maintenance schedules or compliance reviews.
- Reading plans, technical documents, product data sheets and relevant specifications to ensure works are carried out correctly.
- Working closely with management, technicians and other trades to develop scopes of works and ensure efficient project delivery.
- Attending client sites to assess the condition and compliance of fire protection assets and gather information for quoting and planning purposes.
- Helping ensure that all works are carried out in line with applicable codes, standards, manufacturer requirements and company procedures.
- Monitoring the quality of completed works and ensuring fire protection systems and equipment are left in a compliant and serviceable condition.
- Assisting in the research and review of fire protection products, methods and system improvements relevant to the company’s fire division.
- Maintaining accurate asset, service and defect information within company software systems.
- Communicating professionally with clients, building managers, contractors and consultants regarding fire safety issues, site conditions and required works.
- Supporting the business in delivering cost-effective and practical fire safety outcomes across both routine servicing and project works.
The Applicant
The successful candidate must have the following qualifications and experience:
- At least a relevant qualification with at least 12 months’ work experience or if no relevant qualification at least 3 years full-time work experience.
- Demonstrated experience in the inspection, testing, maintenance, repair and installation of fire protection equipment and systems.
- Strong knowledge of fire protection compliance requirements and applicable Australian Standards relevant to the fire safety industry.
- Ability to identify defects, interpret technical requirements and recommend practical and compliant solutions.
- Experience preparing clear service records, reports, defect schedules and basic scope documentation.
- Sound understanding of building environments and the coordination required when carrying out fire safety works in live occupied sites.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess site conditions and determine suitable actions.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients, technicians, contractors and management.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team while managing multiple tasks and priorities.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in relevant software systems, including service and asset management platforms such as Uptick, and general competency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Must hold a current Australian Driver Licence.
- Must have a recent police check, as many of our clients are within aged care, education and other sensitive environments.
Desirable
- Experience across a broad range of fire protection equipment and systems.
- Knowledge of the fire safety industry in NSW, including compliance-based rectification and maintenance environments.
- Experience working with contractors, strata managers, building managers or commercial clients.
- Strong written English skills for reporting and client communication.
- Additional language skills, including Spanish, would be considered favourably.
